Oh my God, I'm a conservative

Yep...it's true.  I have known for a quite a while that my views didn't neatly fit into any one philosophy. However a young waitress I know made it clear to me, that I do fit fairly neatly into one political category.  She said "Ken, you're very conservative in your beliefs."  As I pondered that thoughts, it became clear that most of my beliefs are closely aligned with those 'conservative people'. 

I am against amnesty for illegal aliens, I am against welfare, I'm for less government and lower taxes (none would be best), I think abortion is murder, and if gays want what heteros have they can have it...if they marry someone of the opposite sex.  Death penalty? Just say YES.

For me an absolute deal breaker is the war in Iraq.  I think it was wrong at the beginning, and continues to be wrong.   I also think that there is still racism and that the government can and should go further to balance power and privilege that has been off kilter since before the civil war.  Are things far better than they were?  Of course.  But are they where they need to be?  Hell no.  I'd like to see affirmative action reinstated.  However...I'm not waiting for that, I believe ultimately in self determination.  (That's so very conservative of me).

So...to sum it all up, while I'm waiting for my 40 acres and a mule...I'm going to keep voting Democratic...Maybe they will give me my due...I know those Neo-Cons won't.
