Why do we hate poor roaches?

Damn...some bugs just can't catch a break.  The other day I was working in the kitchen of a restaurant(I won't say which one), and I saw something across the room on the tile I had just installed.  For some reason even though it was a small speck it caught my attention, so I walked over to investigate.  Low and behold it was a cockroach...AHHHHH!!!!

I couldn't stand the thought of that roach crawling up into any of my tools over night, so I hunted down that damn roach.  I was on a mission to destroy it.  I think roaches know when they are in mortal danger.  First they play possum and just freeze.  (I wonder if this trick has ever saved even one roach life...Hmmm)  Anyways...The next thing they do if you continue to pursue them is to flee...and boy are they fast...I'm thinking they might be the fastest bug there is.

So...I eventually cornered that rotten roach and smashed it.  I felt a strange satisfaction over my conquest.  As I was driving home I was feeling really grossed out that there was a roach in a restaurant kitchen.  Then the question occurred to me 'Why do we hate roaches so much?'  I told a couple of people about the roach and they were as grossed out as I was...But why???

If that was an ant, would I still be grossed out?  Certainly not.  I've never heard anyone tell me an ant story.  What if I killed a single fly...would any one care?  Probably not.  For some mysterious reason people have an unexplainable aversion to cockroaches.  Could it be prejudice against 'brown bugs'?  Well, I would think that the 'black' ant would be even lower on the 'prejudicial bug totem pole'.  (This is a comedy piece don't be so sensitive)  Could it be that because roaches like garbage we feel they are dirty bugs?  Well, ants like garbage too.  Yellow jackets like garbage as well.

So...in this historic time when we have a black presidential candidate, trying to bring us all together, perhaps this is the time for tolerance, and unity.  I would like to suggest a change of heart, perhaps even a holiday...'Be Kind to a Roach Day'.  It has a nice ring doesn't it?

Stay Fly and Fly High!

Roaches and bugs are found everywhere. They freak me out, but I try not to think of their existence if I don’t see them. It is funny how you make the connection and bring up politics while talking about such subject. Lol...
